Todd's bloglink showed an example of a chocolate tasting. Jesbelle's reminded me that a tasting of the hard cheeses would be fun (parm reggiano, domestic parms, pecorino, padrano, etc).

Any other ideas for tastings to do at home that would be fun and interesting for guests? I like the chocolate idea and the hard cheeses idea, as this is something anybody can relate to.

Does anyone have any other good resources for tastings?

see post below the fromage fort for the choco tasting material: http://artisansweets.wordpress.com/

I held and olive oil tasting for my dinner club....used oils from different countries. Apple slices were eaten between varieties. Guests had to try to rank them from least expensive to most expensive, and then rank by taste (favorite to least favorite) We had a lot of fun with it, but it can get costly.

I think a mustard tasting would be interesting as well. There are so many fabulous mustards out there. I keep several in the frig at all times.

For the brave a survey of hot sauces can be fun. You need plenty of absorbent nibbles to keep the evening going past the third or fourth sauce.
Almost any ingredient that comes in varieties can be played with like this. I had a blast making cinnamon rolls with three different cinnamons.
And of course there's always wine!

When we were getting ready for our wedding, Geekboy and I held a couple of tastings to decide which beer would go with each course. I'd prepare a dish similar to what would be at the wedding and we'd have a couple of friends or family members try 3-4 beers that we were trying to decide amongst. It was lots of fun.

Nice ideas on your blog post Fuzzy!! Thanks. With people staying at home more, I could see how this could really be fun, and very cost savvy.
