Calling all computer geeks!

I'm not kidding, my dog busted my computer. (Have temporarily stolen Andy's so I can post.)

Clara caught the cord of my computer yesterday and yanked it off the coffee table. It came to rest with a large thud on the floor. It (a MacBook) will now not boot past gray screen. Any thoughts?

Geekboy says "You're hard drive is dead and you've lost all your data." Me, being a Miss Sunshine, asked if the drive may just have come loose. He says, "Possible, not probable."

Geekboy did add that if the computer was off, the data might be retrievable, but if it was on, sorry.

Well, if my hard drive is dead, it's good to know it was backed up. Lost maybe two or three days of data...so, not much.

Thanks for the input, I'll let you know.

Well, I've now spoken with about three more tech people about this, and they all say since the computer was on when it went down, my hard drive is most likely toast. Cha ching...

I killed the HDD in my work laptop by snapping it around excessively when it was running. The replacement laptop has a sensor that can tell when the laptop has been dropped and parks the heads before it hits the floor. Only catch is the laptop has to be running on the battery with the lid closed - which would have saved my other drive, but isn't much help if you're actually using the computer when it gets dropped.

Pete,

My computer was on, but closed, however a couple of people said the fact it was on may have killed the drive. If the hard drive was attempting to do anything, I (Clara ;) ) may have scratched it when it hit the floor.
