I know we covered this on TOBB but what's the best way to clean oven racks? Mine have a patina that is rather unbecoming. I'm thinking that maybe "Easy Off" was suggested in the past but I'm not sure. Thanks! Gerard |

I know people who have stainless racks leave them in on the self-clean oven cycle. My racks are the old kind that supposedly will not fare well with this method. I have never cleaned them, as I want this stove to die and every little reason is one more for replacing it LOL. When I did have an oven I cared about, I used Easy Off for the racks. Preheated the racks to about 200 degrees, then took them outside, sprayed, etc. It wasn't perfect but they did look a LOT better than before. |

Spray them with oven cleaner or a cup of ammonia and seal the bag for a day. They can then be scrubbed or sprayed to clean. Don't put that garbage bag behind your garage. My wast disposal company ran off will all of my BBQ racks. Good luck, Tim |

A good back strap and proper under wire might help, don't rely on shoulder straps... |

Just wanted to update the thread on this one... Found a product called Carbona 2 in 1 Oven Rack & Grill Cleaner. Comes in a box with a bottle of solution, a major heavy plastic bag, and even some thin plastic gloves. Put 1-2 racks in the plastic bag, add the unsmelly solution, seal, wait 8 hours and rinse off. A bit expensive but the upside is that it did a much more thorough job than ammonia, vinegar, or for that matter, letting it soak in the sink filled with water with dish detergent and those 5-7 of those anti-cling sheets you throw in the drier (Bounce), etc. My oven racks are incredibly hard to clean because of their criss-cross pattern. More importantly, when the racks are in the oven, they have these "glider arms" that allow you to pull the rack out smoothly and gently. All good except they get exceptionally dirty. Carbona did extremely well with these racks - even with the complicated hardware! And not having to breath in harsh chemicals was much appreciated too. Sounds like an infomercial - I know. But what can I say. Available on Amazon for about $10 a box. Gerard |
