It looks like mom and I will be visiting Montreal for about a week in January. Anybody around there who would like to meet? Food-related recommendations also requested. Indeed, any recommendations for things not to miss whilst visiting Montreal would be great.

Becky,

There's a Portuguese restaurant about 5 doors down from Schwartz's (where you'll also have to end up for your smoked meat experience), which was excellent, Jano Grillades, I think. Also, great were: Stash Cafe (Polish), Olive et Gourmando (bakery/cafe), and of course bagels! Sadly, though, both of the really good bagleries are way off any public transportation lines, so be ready for a walk.

I also recommend the Auberge du Vieux-Port if you don't already have a place to stay.

Sadly it's almost as long for me to get to Montreal as it is to get to Chicago or I would have tried to come see you. I love Old Montreal - check out this list https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attractions- ... uebec.html - the first 3 are all worth doing. I used to go for business and stayed downtown at the Queen Elizabeth hotel (located over the train station so uber convenient) but a bit of a hike to Old Montreal and more of a financial area.

And everyone will great you in French but will switch to English quickly.

Enjoy. Weather wise it's similar to Chicago winters so you won't be shocked.
