I am going to try to respond to your question about Denver's culinary options. While it is true that it was once know as a "cowtown", it has shed that reputation and now has a great variety of culinary options. Not only variety, but quality. Recently a NY chef shuttered his restaurant in NYC to open an Asian bistro in downtown Denver and when asked why, he said that Denver is about to become the next Portland and he wanted to be part of it.
While I agree that culinary opportunities are a part of any "meetup", it is also important to have a great time together as a group and I think Amy and I can make this a very convivial gathering.
Denver has grown up and I think its about time you experienced it again.
Tim, I happen to love our airport, but airport hell is airport hell no matter what the destination....nothing worse that O'Hare in snow.
Along with experiencing Denver, those of you that would like to plan a pre or post "meetup" mini vacation....access to our world class mountain resorts will be an option.
All in all, Amy and I stand ready to take on the task of planning a face-to-face gathering of this great group of friends and will do our best to make certain that you also have some fine culinary experiences while in Colorado.

GO STEELERS,
Ilene

Thanks Ilene,

I was working today so didn't have a chance to address Josh's question.

Denver has grown up quite a bit in the past 10-15 years. It's a jewel of a city, with fantastic restaurants. It's not SF, but it's eminently more affordable. There's a local culinary tour operator called Culinary Connectors. This will give you some idea of the scene. (Interestingly, the photo on the homepage was taken at my culinary school...in fact, I think that's Chef Peter's hand...lol)

OK, I'm sold.

Especially if you're planning it and I don't have to be involved. ;-)

So ... schedule?

Josh,

You only get one vote, even if you did start this board. ;)

What say the rest of you?

Pete & I are in. I've never been to Colorado. Pete & Darin were there skiing - I don't ski. Darin came home with an unbelievable sunburn. Sent him to the dermatologist the same day. As Pete said before our miles run out (July?). I'm excited. Let me know if I can do anything to help out.

As I said before, would love another reason to go to CO. Just depends on time of year. I'm waiting to hear when my LA nephews' school graduation date is. I've heard it might be 6/23 so the weekend before would be great but it looks like that's Fathers Day weekend.

I'm in - only weekends I'm out are July 23-24 or Father's Day.

I'm no expert on Denver weather, so I'll leave Ilene to answer about what's the most reasonable (i.e., no chance of snow) times we should be looking at. (I live in the mountains, and the weather here is vastly different than Denver's. For example, I'd never schedule a "summer" outing in Telluride before it's actually summer...somewhere around August...lol.)

Kathy/Pete...do you have to use your SW credit before July, or simply by the end of July?

It looks like the credit needs to be used by June 25.

If the timing doesn't work for this event we'll use it somewhere by then.

I am thinking late spring/early summer (late may early to mid June), although we do get our monsoons (late afternoon showers) about that time, or late summer early fall. Summer would also work, but it does get hot here during the day (consistent 90's, but dry). In actually, anytime between late May and early Oct would work. June, July and August are peak tourist season, so the chance of getting a good hotel rate will be diminished at those times.
Have I totally confused the issue?
