Fuzzy:

I just installed this mod in a board I'm setting up for my car club. Easy to do but it requires FTP access to implement.

http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/links-o ... w-windows/

This makes links in forum posts open a new browser window. phpBB changed its behavior from V2.X to V3.0 but I prefer the old behavior since I can get back to the post simply by closing the new window ("Back" doesn't always work depending on the behavior of the target website).

What do you think?

Pete,

I'd rather not. Right now, users can choose to open posts in a new window (or a new tab) if they want to, and not if they don't. If we add that mod, we take that choice away.

This is especially important to me because sometimes I read the board on my Very Small Computer-Phone, which is very unhappy about opening new windows.

How about I write up a HOWTO instead?

Notably with Firefox, you can configure a mouse button to open a link in a new tab. Typically I assign the middle mouse button (scroll wheel) to open in a new tab. In Chrome this is the default behavior (might be in Firefox too, it seems to change from time to time). I can (and often do) scan through a page clicking on all things of interest and then flip through the tabs. Chrome is nice because the tabs open adjacent to the source tab.
