Oh yes, not gratis. I expected you to charge enough to make a profit, at least on materials (don't know where you stand on speed and if you expect to make a decent wage doing such things). At minimum something to further future projects. I hesitate to call it a hobby, as some consider that an insult.

Carey, Paul, Jean:

So, if you wanted salt pigs, would you rather have them be "cute" (e.g. eyes and feet) or "elegant" (minimalist and classic)?

Example of "cute". These are syrup birds:

I'd rather go for minimalist and classic. Maybe with a beautiful glaze (like your mugs).

Edit: I love the variegated blue of your swirly mug, and the green that you did on your slug mug with the brown interior. Both are beautiful.

And a hearty thanks from me - no need for a salt pig, but I do some good eating tips when I'm next in SF.

Only if you *tell* me you're visiting ahead of time. ;-)

Here here. Please don't feel obligated, only do it if you like making things to spec. I like to support peoples pursuits, not make them feel obligated to do things (we all have enough jobs already)

I'm with Paul and Carey on minimalist and classic. And I totally meant to pay for it! I've been wanting this one since it seems big enough to stick a real person's hand in, as opposed to a toddler's.

And what Paul said. The only reason I mentioned it was I thought I read something on the site about custom work, and thought how cool if we all bought the same/similar thing to link our real kitchens as well as our virtual ones.

I have always wondered if those work in a high humidity environment. Does anyone know?

That's the one I have. I like it, but my cat decided that it was super fun to dig in, so now it's filled with fleur de sel and tucked away in a cupboard wher busy paws can't reach it. He does it to my open sugar bowl too if it gets left out.

I haven't noticed any clumping in the summer time. I think the kinds of salt that you'd put in one is less likely to clump.
