On the super topic cooking you have a forum for baking, could you add one for preserving, which would include canning, and charcuterie as well as preserving by pickling and other methods.

:D I would also love a thread on pressure canning. My freezer is packed & I like to make stew & soups for other family members.

It would be nice to see a thread for farmer's market food finds, questions about things found locally, and just the whole local food area. I've really changed my shopping and cooking style the last year since reading Omnivore's Dilemma and then others like it. Had my first Thanksgiving without a drop of Better Than Buillion.

And perhaps a podcast section or other types of web resources other than blogs. Web media. I ran across a good spot today, it was a hotlink on the Ardent Spirits newsletter, that has a guy visiting bars that make interesting cocktails. They demo'ed hot buttered rum in today's video.

How about a travel section? For suggestions or questions about restaurants, markets, or to post food travel photos (how do we do this by the way? - post photos?)

L

All,

Hmmm. So, Markets, Preserving, and Weeknight Meals?

Will that do it?

Oh, and in the future when the board gets busy, you'll want to post these kind of requests in the "Board Help" Forum, that way I or the other (future) moderators will be sure to see them.

How about spirits, beer, wine, slushies, slurpies, coffee. Or maybe that just goes into misc. :?:

EB, all:

At this point, I'm tempted to wait until after the holidays before adding any new forums. One can have too many forums; it'll confuse people and make them scroll too much.

I'm thinking that I'll wait for a few weeks and see what kinds of topics start repeading in Misc. and elsewhere, and those will become new forums (and I can move over the old posts, yaaay good technology).

I'll also do a survey at that time about whether people want to have two-level forums (like eGullet) or "flat" 1-level forums like the current board does.

Does that work for everyone?

I would agree about a forum for potables, but I'm in no hurrry.

There might be value to a separate section on 'tips' or this might be just fine under "Cooking". Many of CI's selections were simply ridiculous while my brilliant ones  were not chosen or acknowledged. One of the more interesting threads on the CI BB was when we chose which were the most useful of previous tips.

Wino, all:

Yeah, I can see adding a forum for beverages. I'm thinking of removing "Weeknight Meals" because nobody is posting anything to it. If you care about that forum, post something on it!

Actually, the best way really to add new forums is to see what topics people post lots of stuff about in Miscellaneous, then create the forum and move the posts. So, if you want to write about wine/beer/coffee/tea/water/urine, then just post to miscellaneous.
