Search engine Bots or "spiders" are the mechanism by which search engines discover new pages and update their search indexes. The underlying software behind this board, phpBB, includes some 51 bots as default registed users. AFAIK the main utility in identifying them as a registered user is that it provides outward visibility into how often a particular search engines indeses the bulletin board.

Pete,

As admins, we also have the ability to set certain pages/topics off-limits to the spiders. For example, the moderators forum isn't spidered.

Hmmmm ... "Fuzzy Chef and the Spiders from Google". ;-)

KP - that answer was so boring I interrupted my vacation on Maui (currently monitoring sunsets with different wines...).

There was a good thing going and and suddenly . . .

Now, I'm going back out there so stop it, stop it right now :!: :P
