Cookaholics Bulletin Board :: View topic - Should I Move Threads Around?

Every “Active Topic” under “Board Help” could easily fit under “General Information.” Similarly, “Board Help” is not really a “Community” item.

Interestingly, if one clicks on “Community” 25 “Active Topics” appear but the four sub-forums (Board Help, Meetups, Miscellaneous, and Blogroll) do not appear. However, if one clicks on “Cooking Questions” only the 8 sub-forums appear (cooking questions, Recipes, Baking, cookware & Bakeware, etc.)

You may also want to consider eliminating threads that are time dated (New Year’s Eve meals, for example). Even reference librarians weed their collection!!

At the moment I don’t have time to analyze all categories and their thread contents but I do know that spending time now re-organizing will pay big dividends down the road. If you would like me to drill down on these, or some of these, please let me know – there is always more Champagne somewhere!

Well, the idea was that General Information was for the Administrator & Moderators to post helpful information about how the Board works. You'll notice that you can't post anything to that category. I do realize that the distinction between General Information and Board Help is rather nebulous (even to me), but if General Information because a forum for questions about the board, we'd have to make a whole bunch of things "sticky", which would then mean a lot of scrolling for anyone who wanted to actually look at the Help requests. In other words, I agree that the split between Board Help and General Information isn't exactly ideal, but I can' t think of another way to organize it that isn't worse. And Board Help actually is a "Community" item; it's about members helping each other. Does that make sense? No, people like to go back and re-read old threads. One of the biggest complaints about the broken CI board was the constraints it placed on reading old threads. And it's not like it takes up a lot of space. So deleting threads is out. All, So, I've done some re-arranging. I moved the topics mentioned, and renamed "Weeknight Meals" to "Weeknight Meals & Economizing". I also created the topic "Holidays" and moved a bunch of topics from Miscellaneous into it.
