On this board, and most phpBB boards I've seen, the theme generally gives very little emphasis to url elements; many users often miss them. If I may suggest a small enhancement, it would be to tweak the style so they show a little more strongly. Of course, time permitting, etc.

As far as I can see there's not a quick setting for that but it's hidden in the nuts and bolts of the BB template that determines the particular board's "look & feel." I think that's a task for Fuzzy since I don't have access to the config files that would drive that.

In my posts I generally change my link text to bold blue after entering the URL code to make the links more apparent.

Paul,

I've avoided doing anything about the link colors because I assumed that changing them would be some complicated theme editing. Looking at the code, though, it doesn't look that complicated. I probably can't fix it in the next two weeks, but maybe after that I'll have time to experiment with color values.

If you could give me a decimal color value which would make links pop, I might get it done faster. We'll need better colors for links, visited links, and when the mouse hovers over the link. Current colors are:

link: #646464
visited link: #111111
mouse-over link: #111111, with underline

Paul,

So, here's the problem. As it turns out, the board style doesn't differentiate between links in people's posts and links anywhere else in the board ... for example, topic names, menu items, etc. So I can't fix it just by changing a couple lines in then css sheet without making the whole board look weird.

The CSS for this theme is a bit of a mess, really. The text color scheme relies on overlaying the link formatting for all of the titles, topic links, etc., instead of setting colors/styles for each element. So while it's theoretically possible to make links in people's posts pop, first you'd have to untangle all of the css and apply colors and styles correctly to each element by type. In other words, like 3-5 hours of work for someone who knows CSS much better than me.

I looked at some other styles to see if there was a different one I could use, but I don't like any of them nearly as well as this one (RedSilver). I do see that there's an update for this style, so I'll try applying it and see if that fixes some other stuff.

The link color I normally select from the "colour" chooser is #0040FF.

Wel, they aren't decimal, but I am totally down with that colour :)

Paul,

See above. What that means is "I can't fix it".

Much grasias, Fuzzy, for looking into it. Somehow I didn't see that post. It doesn't surprise me that it isn't really fixable; i've noticed it on other boards with equally dedicated admins who probably wanted to change it.

Is it possible to have links open in a new window?

Kurt,

It's been discussed: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=602

Paul,

Well, "prosilver" was the original "example" style for PHPBB put out by the project. I think a lot of style creators just copied that and modified it, and thus inherited its CSS-mess.
