This little guide turned up on my feed today. It has some cool things. Empires of Food and the Phuzion tray were particularly interesting. So was the Cuisinart Greenware. Has anyone heard if they are any good?

In general, I find that gift guide to be like most ... "green" as a marketing gimmick. For example:

It's a freaking useless platter made out of fused glass. It's not even recycled glass. What's "green" about it exactly?

Most of this stuff falls into the typical "consumer environmentalism" which says, "yes, I'm driving an SUV, but it's a hybrid SUV." The idea that merely being greedy instead of being a glutton makes you a conservationist. Vintage china (air-shipped from Replacements.com), Cuisinart "greenware", compostable picnic basket.

The only thing I like is this one: http://www.treehugger.com/galleries/201 ... hp?page=12 Ceramic tupperware, which is tasteful and attractive. They're a bit pricey at $17 each, but really nice-looking.

To be more direct and less rant-ish, I haven't tried any of the non-teflon non-stick. If anyone here does, I'd like to hear your results; it would be nice to not replace my teflon, since the stuff is toxic as all-get-out.

I liked those bowls too. They are a bit on the pricey side, but they're cute.

Yeah, the "greenness" on that guide does rather vary, but that platter shore is purty. I've replaced most of my teflon, as it wears out, with cast iron, but I have trouble with the 12-incher. I can lift it, but I can't hold it with one hand and squeegee it out with a spatula in the other. So, it would be nice to have something lighter, but I'm holding out for something non-toxic.

I had one of those green non-stick pans (I forget what they are called but are white on the inside) and it sucked big time. I am sticking with the toxins until they come up with something better. I am seriously jonesing for some decent Lodge cast iron pans. I can only (and with difficulty) get freaking expensive French ones which I would do but they all come with this extra long wooden handle that does not fit into my drawers. I was tempted to carry one back last summer but they are soooo heavy and the weight allowance is not what it used to be.
