I bought my SIL the Red 5.5 qt Dutch Oven for Christmas this year. I checked the knob and it seems to be made of metal. Does anybody know if this can withstand the higher temps? I am going to show her how to bake bread in it and I don't want to ruin the knob.

I knew my month long stint at SLT would come in handy....metal knobs will handle up to 450 degrees and they know have metal replacement knobs for original Le Creuset knobs (SIL catalogue)

The product info says that the stainless knob can "withstand any oven temperature."

Makes me want to put one in a kiln and see how it does LOL.

I have the bakelite handle and it has weathered a 400 degree oven before. (I put aluminum foil around it.) It might have been a bread recipe - I can't remember now.

I'm afraid that what will happen is that the screw threads in the plastic knob will weaken just enough to drop the searing hot lid on my foot some day. I put a brass drawer knob on our $39 Tarjay pot, and we have a stainless LC knob sitting around waiting to go onto on of the LCs.
