Jean,

The pizza must have been *amazing*.

We are just lucky he didn't burn the house down. And thank goodness it was him and not me that did it. ;-)

When we bought our Weber a long time ago, I went with SS grates. I think they were a few extra bucks more than the enameled. I have replaced several items on my Genesis Silver but never the grates (so far). And, I use a wire brush with abandon.

I've replaced the grates and the burner on my Genesis, next up is the flavourizer bars. Of course, that sounds like it is maintenance prone, but that is over a period of like 15 years (and I don't cover it, etc either), so pretty good really.

Paul,
I love our Genesis grill! It's really stood the test of time, all this time in cold snowy NE winters, it's really held up well. (I cover mine though!) A strong micro-burst came through in the fall and blew the grill off the patio into the backyard and it still fired up without much tinkering. We bought it at the New England flower show, probably 15 years ago too. I've replaced the flavourizer bars, ignition switch, and thermometer. According to Mr Grill, a local entrepreneur who started a small business of servicing local grills, the Genesis is great grill and still has lots of life in it due to parts being readily available.

Fuzzy,
Before our Genesis, I swore by Charbroil grills. Good luck with the rehab.

This is the one we got - https://www.amazon.ca/Napoleon-P500RSIB ... B0076VX02G

The weber genesis we have is still going although more needs to be replaced. But t is a workhorse and we're going to keep it although not sure if we can have both hooked up to our gas line.

How to you like it? I've been wanting a little larger grill, and especially with burners that run front to back, and looked pretty hard at that one. I don't care about side burners or 'sear' burners so much (try adding a wok burner instead, people!), but there is likely a model at our local joint that doesn't have them, or I can just live with it (the sear burner might get a little use, though doesn't seem really hot enough for what I would use it for if I did use it).

I've been kinda eyeballing grills for a few years now, but still never quite find one that excites me. I did have a look at the combo Joe, and my wife said $5000, are you insane? But then she found out it would replace the 3 BBQ's in the back yard with one, and suddenly she is all Hmmm....

Paul, I worded badly there. We've ordered in (Airmiles - we had almost 6000 set to expire0 so it's not arrived yet. Will advise when it does.
We looked at a Lynx last year at the home show and it looked awesome. But this one was (in a way) free, which made the argument for it much more compelling. ;-)

Fuzzy,

We have bought replacement parts for our 23 year old Weber from http://www.grillparts.com

Hubby likes the SS, I'm partial to cast iron. In your climate I would go with the enamel coated or SS. If it is as rainy as they say it is.
