Has anyone tried the Benriner spiralizer? I've had such good luck with their mandoline that I'm considering this above all the others I've seen. It also looks most like the one Pierre Franey used on his tv show years ago.

Fitzie,

I have the Benriner spiralizer (this model). I like it quite a lot. It is easy to clean and use. The only downside is that it could benefit from some rubber suction cups on the feet like the Paderno model. Replacement blades are available for it as well.

We just got the Paderno with flour blades. Steve had purchased a cheaper version, but putting them side by side, you could see the why the one was cheaper. He bought a slew of veggies to use, but has not as yet. Will post when he does. PS, the suction is really nice.

Lisa, I'm thinking of the cheaper one. If it doesn't work, I'll return it. Thanks for the info.

You can get it as a KitchenAid attachment now at Sur La Table. KA Spiralizer.

I don't have a spiralizer, but I bought this: UberChef® Premium Ultra Sharp Stainless Steel Julienne Peeler & Vegetable Peeler | UC-JP101 about a year ago. It kinda does the same thing. I've used it enough to get my $10 use out of it, it doesn't take up any space to store, and it made me glad I didn't buy the larger, more expensive sprializer!

Ohhhh, that looks tempting, Alina. Will be interested to see reviews on it.

I'm just imagining accidentally flipping the KA to "5" and spraying the ceiling with vegetable juice.

When I got my spiralizer I said to my husband that we needed an electric motor version. I like doing the fine shreds on of carrot with the big juicing carrots. They are cheap, and the woody center core isn't used anyway, but after two of those my hands are ready to fall off.

I can't justify a gadget right now, unfortunately.

Lisa, if you need any help with that justification, don't hesitate to ask. Unfortunately for DH, I'm quite accomplished at coming up with them. Not to mention the other helpful enablers around here ;)

I just got and tried the KitchenAid Spiralizer and I'm impressed. So far all I've done is zucchini but my old spiralizer was a piece of junk and required way too much effort. I have also been unimpressed with my apple peeler/corer but I think this will work well. The unit attaches at both ends of the fruit/veggie so it keeps it centered, which was the main problem I had with my apple peeler. Did I mention we're thinking about retiring in the next couple of years and I'm making sure I've got all my toys before then. :) Deb
