Just saw that the Sansaire is available at Sur La Table online now and since its over $59 should have free shipping. Should be in stores momentarily. I am loving mine.

I can't believe how inexpensive they have gotten! Hopefully more people will start cooking sous vide and fewer people will think I am insane when I tell them I put some short ribs in to cook for 3 days. :)

I am happy because maybe there will be more home guides and easy to access recipes. I am doing a major cook for our anniversary tomorrow. Four sirloin steaks, carrots, haricots vert and will probably throw in a pork tenderloin to have later in the week. Might as well save some energy since it will be hot already.

I wish I knew if pears would keep. We have some fresh ones, but hoping to make a chocolate dessert for tomorrow, so the pears would be for later in the week.

Alina, Lisa:

The gadget freak in me is tempted. But only lightly tempted. Can you really so sous-vide using just a freezer zip-loc bag?

Alina, put the pears in the fridge. Whole pears will keep for up to a month that way, if they're not too ripe to begin with. Then take them out 24 hours before you plan to use them.

That is tempting.....I may wait to see what kitchen things I unload at the big garage sale in May.

Josh,

I use a food saver vac sealer for long cooks and freezer bags for shorter cooks like seafood. I don't see any reason you can't do the longer cooks in a regular freezer bag, but I am paranoid it would come open for some reason.

As as I covet a chamber vac, there is just no place in my house to store one.

Edited to add: I should mention that I had a problem with my Nomiku last month and they replaced it within a week under warranty with no questions asked. I would recommend them for customer service, and I love the machine.

Yes, you can do it in Ziploc bags. In fact, that is the recommended bag for things with liquids using Archimedes principle to get the air out. You can also use jars.

Thanks for the tip on the pears Josh, I will put our new bag in the fridge. I was wondering about storing them after they had been cooked. They were really good and I am doing carrots and green beans again tomorrow, so I could throw in a couple of pears.

You can do risotto, polenta, etc. as well. You can do beans too, though the pc is faster. Still it is completely hands off.

I've had no problems with my Sansaire so far, but one person that did got excellent service as well.

I'm wondering whether it will ever be at BB&B. I could get into a 20% off coupon... :)
