I searched for the old thread on this subject but came up empty.
I have the Metro beater that I use on my KA 5qt. lift model (Hobart made).
I've found that at higher speeds the beater will spin on the shaft then speed up and slow back down
I'm thinking that I need to replace it with the SideSwipe, it does get better ratings at Amazon. Or, does the problem lie within the mixer itself?
Comments, please.

You'll have to research and understand this phenomena in detail.

I can't offer anything on the scientific side, Linda. But I used a SideSwipe with my 6 qt. KA and really liked it. They don't make one for the 7 qt. I got some months ago so I bought the KA scraper paddle made for it, and it doesn't work as well as the SideSwipe did.

Emilie-
The attachments for your 6 qt KA will fit your 7 qt just fine. I also like my old side swipe way better than the scraper KA makes. I use it all the time in my 7qt with no problems.

I’m not sure what qualifies as a higher speed, but I do not run my Professional 6 above speed 6 with the bowl lubricated with butter [creaming] or above 4 for other uses when I have a beater blade installed.

With its full contact design, I believe that the bowl adjustment with a beater blade may be more critical than with the Sideswipe. Bowl adjustment is the first place I would look if something unusual was going on during mixing.

Jim,
Do you know if the blade is adjustable on a Hobart-made 5 qt. lift mixer?

That's good to know! I'm surprised, though, since the bowl is taller. Do you have to adjust the bowl height when moving between your SideSwipe and the paddle or dough hook that came with the 7 qt.? I originally tried my 6 qt. whisk (the stainless one with lots of tines or whatever they're called) and even though it worked, I found it cumbersome to get it and out of the mixer bowl since the top of the bowl is closer to the head of the mixer.

I gave my 6 qt. and the attachments to my son's fiancee who loves to bake, so that SideSwipe will continue to be well used. But I'll buy myself a new one if it works fine without having to adjust the bowl. So let us know about that please!

No, I don't have to adjust the bowl height. It works fine for me.

I have and love the white one with blue fins. I did have one fin break off.
