I have a good friend who is renovating an old home. They are going to do the kitchen and bathroom first. They have a max of $3K to spend on a range. Blue Star is not in the budget. Recos?

I have been pretty happy with my DCS. I have all gas; I'd get duel fuel next time. The broiler on the gas one is super hot (my main reason for gas oven), but the sweet zone is quite narrow and the actual oven is only so-so; usual problem with vented gas ovens; dry and slow to heat. My main complaints are that the igniters are a little flakey, and the sealed burners, which are pretty bothersome. And the knobs flake. OTOH, it was quite economical compared to most brands, and over all I am very pleased.

I've seen a blue star at costco for under $3K if that particular model meets their needs. Also, my friend bought an induction GE that he is extremely happy with.

Amy,

As you know, we've been quite happy with our Summit, which should be around $1100 for a 36-inch.

Amy,

Consumer Reports recommends the GE Cafe smooth top range. LINK

This is also available in dual fuel - not as highly ratedl: LINK

I have a GE that is around the $2500 mark in dual fuel and love it.
It's this one: http://geprofile.ca/Model.aspx?cate=coo ... 2S975SERSS

I like that the bottom is an oven/warming drawer, great for sides when the turkey is in the enormous upper oven.
