Did I ever tell you about my favorite, vintage, war-ravaged, oversized, $12 poly board? It's my favorite since it always looks the same (kind of crappy) so I have not guilt and it goes in the dishwasher.

The poly boards are still very cheap.

Based on my experience with a Boos Block 24”x 72” island top, I would hazard a guess that if you invest in an 18” x 24” John Boos cutting board and treat it with the respect it deserves, you will not be disappointed. Just ask your knives.

Karen,

Glad you're getting a Boos. I've not bought a new one yet because life keeps getting in the way, but have pretty much decided on that direction as well.

Well, I finally did it. Went thru Effingham last Monday, stopped at the factory outlet and bought 2 brand new "perfect" cutting boards, 5 factory seconds, and Good ol' Norbert Bruce (Mgr) threw in two large pieces of Poly boards and a couple of tubes of Boo's Board Cream for free. Total damage: $260.00

Long story short...

Andy is driving back to Colorado and told me he was taking the northern route. As it turns out, he's taking the southern route. I just spoke with him and said, "if you happen to be driving through Effingham, IL I'd love for you to stop at the John Boos outlet." He asked, "who is John Boos?" I explained, and he said he had just driven through Effingham. I asked him to turn around and go back.

Called the outlet, and while they don't have the board I want at the outlet, I can get a non-outlet version for about $160, or $100 less than retail. As we were chatting Andy pulled up in their parking lot.

I told the guy at the outlet my old maple board had died due to it being soaked in water by Andy. I asked him to casually mention boards should never be soaked in water. He completely understood...it's a sore spot between Andy and I. Andy insists to this day he was not responsible for the demise of my (very expensive) 3" maple board 10 years ago due to his soaking.

Hey, you do what you have to do...

Amy

Excellent! And I totally agree, sometimes you just have to go that route.
