This piece of scrap steel weighs 24 pounds. The flaxseed oil made for a nice finish.

Thank you Fussy,

The second coating of flax seed oil provided that wonderful finish. I tried a different method: I applied the flax seed a little thicker than recommended and only on the top surface. I placed the steel high in the oven and broiled the steel for 30 minutes. I left it cool for 5 hours in the oven.
