Amy, my cooking club has a private Facebook page and we have a list of all our gadgets so we don't need 10 ice cream makers (although we may have 10...).

Agree with Paul on Vitamix. It just does things no other appliance can do.

You're right, and you will keep finding more things it can do that blenders were OK at, until you use the VM. Nothing makes gazpacho like a VM, and it is amazing how all of those pepper seeds and skins in moles and other Mexican sauces are simply ground up so fine that there is nothing that strains out - a step I don't even use any longer!

Happy Friday the 13th!

More useful than thought:
Avocado slicer, received one from a friend, Makes avocados so easy, very spreadable.
kitchen aid mixer, but you guys already knew this!
Victorinex flexible boning knife, did not know it could be used for so many things...this is a wonderful knife for 18bucks. Good orange peeler.

less useful than thought:
Mandoline, this thing scares me
Whisks in general, I am just not drawn to them
Stick blender, it's plenty useful, I just always forget about it. Used it today for bean soup, it was perfect. Maybe I'll keep it out on the counter for a while

Eb, using iPad so it does some strange spell corrections.

There's a whole (NSFW) website dedicated to the strange corrections of Mac gizmos.

The first email I sent from my iPad was to my cousin and should have read "See you in the morning, can't wait!" what I sent was "Miguel in the morning, can't wait!"

Mary

Speaking of useful, I use my iPad in the kitchen all the time.

Can you even get San Miguel in Switzerland?

Also not my favorite choice of morning beer. I prefer a stout; more vitamins in one.

I was thinking Miguel as in swarthy sexy man.

No San Miguel here but there is Corona. Something to drink while waiting for a.m. visitors.

I sent a text to my son at college, "you need any baked goods?" and it sent "you need any naked goods?" Yikes!

Lynn,

Get yourself a kevlar glove, and you'll be less scared. Mandolines are almost indispensable in some applications, so having the protection of that kind of glove will give you more confidence in using it.

I could never give up my ricer. I've tried a food mill (3 different ones) and never seemed to get the hang of it. I use it for mashed pots and gnocchi. Besides, what else would I use to strain all the water out of my spinach? ;)

Jean,

You have to reverse direction on the food mill every once in a while to get the potatoes through. And, thank you for the comment on spinach. I'm glad my unpublished tip lives on!

Amy

Yup...just used it last night
