Mary,

. Pretty good riveting work there.

First time I read this, I read "Pretty riveting work there" which got a very satisfied groan ( I love puns and other plays on words ).

That is a very nicely made knife. I really hope if I have kids they will have a shop program as good as this and be in an environment that doesn't consider all knives to be weapons.

I never made knives but I collected and sold them for a few years. Very nice knife and I am nice to hear she had to temper it too. Sounds like a good school with some real education going on. A nice drop point design, cutting and grinding, but, yep, the rivets were "riveting"!

The riveting pun was very sharp of you. Funny without being cutting. I can't handle it when I am blade for a fool.

Curious what type of wood she used for the handle? Nice work.

She forgot, just that it is not olive because her friend wanted the olive... I would like to know too. It is a lovely color and grain.

Sure beats the projects I remember from shop! I think I made a coffee table. And not a good one.

They start them off with this kind of stuff pretty early. They were using jigsaws (not sure if that is what they are called, the ones with the very thin blade) in the first grade and the elementary school has an impressive shop with any power tool you would want. Probably the reason we have such good craftsmen.
