In 1998, my sister gave me a Cuisinart 7 speed hand mixer. On January 27th, while making my son's birthday cake, it finally gave up the ghost. I have been using it hard (cakes, frosting, whipped potatoes...) for 13 years now. I immediately ordered another one. If you need a mixer, I highly recommend this one. It is a workhorse.

Tim...I concur. I use a Cuisinart hand mixer and it is a workhorse, as is my 30 year old Cuisinart food processor, which also gets a workout and just keeps going. I highly recommend the brand for small appliances.

I have a Krups hand mixer purchased in 1980 to replace my mother's Sunbeam mixer whose motor I burned out making divinity. I used to use the Krups a lot but lately I've been making cakes, etc., that only require mixing by hand. I had one of the original Cuisinarts purchased from Macy's Cellar, was given a newer, larger one about 10 years ago and gave the oldie to my granddaughter hoping to spur along her interest in cooking. Wish I had it back.

I am putting my 1985 Braun Minipimer immersion blender (Zabars $19.95) into retirement due to a broken blade, unfortunately not replaceable. This was like an Evinrude in my kitchen, able to mix cement with speeds ranging from 100rpm to maybe 1200rpm. Even with half a blade, it still can make a nice concrete.

I took a gift certificate into W-S and looked at the Bamix$$$ and All-Clad hand blenders. The All-Clad was variable speed ranging from maybe 1000rpm all the way up to 1100rpm. It also has a non-replaceable blade.

The Bamix doesn't seem to be very highly rated but is does come with lots of beakers.

Any thoughts?
