Laurie,

Metal roofs are one of those things which are two orders of magnitude less expensive to do yourself. Problem is, you need a friend with the equipment to cut corrugated sheet metal.

A friend with the equipment to cut corrugated sheet metal is a friend indeed.

Oh we can cut it. My husband has every tool and piece of equipment known to man, and two of many. The estimate we got was for material only.

We worked it out to get the metal roof. The materials were ordered today and should be here Wednesday or Thursday. We'll begin work over the holiday weekend.

They had quoted plywood shiething, but we want it open to see the truss's, so that saved $150.00 on wood, felt paper and nails. Then Dave remembered he had left over soffit and facia from out garage so that saved some more bucks. Plus we sold our hot tub so that added to the budget. We did need to purchase and install firing stips for additional support.

The color is crimson, a lovely color of red with tericotta undertones. Can't wait to see the first piece go up.

I also ordered and have the outdoor ceiling fan and have picked out some other post mounted lighting. I am going to consider hanging lights before making the final decision on them. This is fun! :D

I think you'll be happier with metal, not only are they beautiful, they provide some measure of safety. Keep posting pics!

I think we'll like the metal best too. It's what we invisioned, so had to find a way to make it work without breaking the budget. I didn't want to go over budget this early in the project.
