Oh, oh, oh. You are a lucky girl indeed, that is beautiful and you can put on the the insanely jealous list. I am still trying to get some space cleared so I can move my grill closer to the house. I did talk to my handy, helpful neighbor who is in charge of all the garbage and recycling in Zurich (he can get ANYTHING) about building a granite top prep table to put next to said grill. Maybe he will shame my well meaning but procrastinating husband into getting me a space made.

Mary

PS your back yard is gorgeous. Looks like a great place for a party!

Thanks all, we love our back yard. It is very private and we own the land behind so there are no homes back there. I am really excited that this project finally got underway. I have dreamed of an outdoor kitchen for years. There has always been something else to take presidence on time and money. I am so lucky to have a husband that can do almost anything and loves doing so.

This winter he is redoing my scrapbooking/craft room. I've already bought some of the materials. My girlfriends all laugh that the poor man never gets a break, it's one project after an another.
Good thing he loves a project! :D

It's starting to get exciting now. Here's the new roof, and start of the cabnitry.

The solid grey tiles and glass tiles will be the counter top. There will be one 6x6 glass tile diamond in the center of every 4, 12x12 grey tiles. The glass tiles will also run around the parimiter of the counters.

The dark grey paint swatch will be the outside of the cabinetry. The red the face of the cabnitry and the lighter gery the cabinet doors.

I have a great ceiling fan for the center, 2 wall mounted lights that will go on the back two posts and 2 matching hanging pendant lights to go over the front bar area. The area under the bar will be open so you can set on either side. The grill will go on the back wall with cabnitry on either side, more on the right than left.

I'll post pic's as the progress continues.

Laurie

Laurie,

Wow, that's looking great. I look forward to the completed kitchen ... but not as much as you, I bet!

Thanks Fuzzy, I can hardly wait. I'm thinking of having a bonfire and chili party outside in December or late January when we get back from vacation to initiate it. Us northerner's we can take it! lol

Hubby has the backside of the cabinetry installed, need to go for more lumber to do the front, not quite enough. I am still debating on if I want the same material used for the cabinet doors or if I want something different. The main cabinet base is done in an exterior siding that has vertical grooves. I am sorta thinking of using something smooth (no grooves) for the cabinet doors. The trick is finding things that can be used outdoors.

We also decided to move the grill to the left side so we can have more counter space. That area was going to have a bench, so instead the bench will moved down and not be under the roof area.

Plus a metal roof is so much more acoustical in a hail storm!

Looks like a very nice start. One guy here built an outdoor BBQ gazebo with bench seats around the perimeter. Sadly he put the grill and full chimney in the center of the gazebo so you can not see across the way to chat with anyone not seated beside you. Doh!
