About 15 or 20 years ago, I bought 3 dozen Ball jelly jars. At that time some old-school types were still sealing jellies with paraffin and you could get an 8 oz. jelly jar with no threads - you know, the kind that ended up as drinking glasses until the next round of jelly-making. They also came with a snap-on plastic lid. At the time Ball was billing them as "freezer jelly" jars since most of the paraffin users were dying out and the powers that be had decided that paraffin was a bad risk, anyway. Most folks aren't too fond of glass in the freezer, so I guess Ball just quit selling them soon after.

Well, like I said I bought 2 dozen of these, then a 3rd when it became clear that they were going the way of the mammoth. I've been using them ever since to keep my herbs and spices in. I love them; they close up tight (or they did) and they have wide mouths that can accommodate any measuring spoon.

However -- the lids are pretty much totally shot. I think through the years I've lost maybe 4 jars, but the lids are cracking and stained. I have searched brick-and-mortars and the internet for a decade now - all in vain. I'm to the point where I will have to buy new jars if I can't find some kind of lids for these. Does anybody know of a place where I can buy plastic lids? These lids are nothing special - just snap on lids with a rough spot for labeling. I don't need to be able to label them. I just need to find something that will fit.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Jes, I can't help you. But in case you decide to change jar types, I use these http://www.bernardin.ca/pages/product_p ... php?pid=62 with great success

I can't tell you where to get them but I did a quick search and came up with "Ball Jam Jars with Plastic Snap On LIds, number 80800" Seems like you aren't the only looking for these.

Have you e-mailed Ball? Maybe they could give you the specs on the lid. There are lots of people selling snap-on plastic lids.

Good luck.

You might want to see if plastic cat food can covers will work. I use them on other cans besides cat food - they have 2 steps in them for different sized cans; perhaps one is the same size as your jars.

Also, look here.

I'll try emailing Ball. I have a couple of the cat food lids, but they are way too big.

Did you click on the link? It's not for the cat food can lids - it's a Ball product.

Oops, yes I did click. They look right. I'm trying to find them somewhere else that has less outrageous shipping. Otherwise, I'll bite the bullet and order them from the site you linked to. Thanks!
