I am finally getting around to buying a tortilla press. Any recommendations, do's or don'ts?

I agree - simple is better. Just get a heavy cast aluminum (I think that's the metal used) model. My favorite trick for tortillas is to use a plastic freezer bag to sandwich them (cut off all four sides so you have two pieces of the heavy plastic). It's more durable than plastic wrap and can be reused a few times; it also never sticks.

Agree as well. Mine is heavy cast aluminum, and it works great. I think I bought mine at Surly Tab during our kitchen session in Chicago.

Agree with everyone else....As far as tortillas, don't use instant masa harina, use the original and......lard. It's much better tasting (but not for you.)
