Interesting with the citric acid. I have a pound bag of that (minus a few tb. for whatever I have used it for), so maybe when I do need it I could stick some of that in there?

Wow!! I've been having the same exact problem. Everything seems to have a film on it and I thought that I'd have to look into buying a new one. We have extremely hard water and I though that was the problem even though just this started several weeks ago. I've been using those Cascade tablets that are 1/2 powder and 1/2 gel. I guess not anymore. Thanks Tim!

Wino,

You must have googled the wrong thing. Those look like the ingredients in Sandra Lee's Kwanzaa Cake!

One problem is that all of the major brands reformulated their dishwasher detergents recently to remove the phosphates. Suddenly eveyone's dishwasher is on the fritz.

Not in Michigan, yet. I have to drive all over town to find phosphate-free dishwashing tabs that cost less than the dishwasher itself. Okay, it's not that bad. Target carries the Method tabs at a reasonable price.

And the other thing many of them did many years ago was replaced the chlorine bleach with oxalic acid, which did little for bleaching, at least in the amounts they had in them. Many, but not all brands, have returned the chlorine bleach, but the low phosphates are still a problem.
