All,

Does anyone on this board have a SideSwipe or Beaterblade on their KA mixer? What do you think of them? Have you compared the two?

We have the issue that the mixer blade on our KA doesn't quite reach the bottom of the bowl, making the KA useless for any batch under 4 cups. Looking for solutions cheaper than replacing the KA with something else.

I have the Beaterblade and I love it. It really does solve that bottom of the bowl problem.

One caveat........... you have to reduce the mixing time on many recipes. It is so much more efficient. Learn to watch for visual clues instead of times and you'll be good.

Sorry, I can't compare because I've never tried the Sideswipe.

I have the beaterblade for my 6 qt KA, and it works beautifully, cleaning the sides so well that I rarely have to stop and scrape, unless it is something on the beaterblade itself. I never had a problem with small batches, but then, I rarely make small batches!

Ok, I don't *recommend* doing this or anything, but for somethings I loosen the bowl and kinda move it around some. I do this especially when making butter, as it tends to stick like crazy to the sides of the bowl and this enables me to scrape it off. Wouldn't do it with a heavy load.

Come to think of it, a sideswipe might be a good idea!

I have the beater blade and love it, especially because one of the bowls we have is warped and the regular blade hits it.

I thought there was an adjustment for raising or lowering the post where the paddle attaches but I may be confusing it with my Kenwood mixer. (I'd go look but I'm on the bus right now.)

Hi,

We also have the BeaterBlad and yes, we love it. Meringue in half the time. It is very easy to clean. If you happen to own one of the older lift bowl KA's, be very careful you have the right model when buying a BeaterBlade.

The SideSwipe can be a bear to clean. Look at all of those blades sticking out and think of cleaning between them. There was a story on TOBB about one of the small blades disappearing into something.

Josh,
I went with the swideswipe. Okay, there's a story. I bought it for myself. For Christmas. My Dad always gets ElderBeerman gift cards for me. Being the shopper I am, I have about $1000 worth from over the years. I went online to get myself some kitchen things with the cards. When it came time to check out, the sob's don't take gift cards online. I wasn't wasting my time for nothing. I haven't used it yet tho, too much going on.

I also have one-can't remember which type right now, but it has blue fins, not a clear blade. I really like the way it works. Not much trouble to clean, either.

I have the sideswipe. I completely adore it! I used it for a couple of months and then it just disappeared one day. I tore the kitchen apart looking for it. I guess it accidentally went in the trashcan. I couldn't live without it and I bought a new one.

I also bought my sister one. She loved it.

The one problem is that it works so well that it does fluff the batter up higher. Sometimes it feels like it might overflow. It never has though so it is all good.
