Amy,

Yeah, I've thought of building my own wood-fired oven ... it wouldn't be hard.

Thing is, refractory brick and refractory cement is $$$expensive. I did the math, pre-made oven wouldn't be much more than it would cost me to build one from scratch. Also, where would I put it?

I do have to take issue with one thing, though:

Quote:
Most importantly—every Le Panyol wood fired oven is 100% organic.

Um, NO.

That oven better be completely inorganic. Or it's going to catch fire when you heat it up. (inorganic == containing no carbon)

When I win Lotto, one of these will be going into the backyard.....I have designed it about a dozen times!
There is a farmer in Boulder who has been making the wood fired pizza ovens on trailers for all of the portable food carts in Denver, but they are not as pretty as this one.

A little unrelated, but I use a mineral make-up called Larenim. The FAQ on her page explains that it's not organic and why "organic" can't really apply to ground up rocks.

JesBelle,

Yeah, I wrote the company and they were pretty insistent on defending the use of the term. I suggested that they list "zero-carb" and "low cholesterol" as well, then. Idiots.

Order your Panyol from someone else if you can ...

I used to help build a portable wood-fired oven for use at a week long reenactment camping event. It worked great and we would break it into chunks at the end of the event. We used cement over a frame of chicken wire, covered that with about 8" of mud and baked it dry. It was about 4' long and 2' wide. Not an oven you would want in a restaurant perhaps, but it made great breads and casseroles and so on. Much more fun than a propane stove, too.
(this was over 15 years ago, mind you)
