I have some dates in the pantry, so I decided to make this cake that my Grandma used to make. If you like dates, this is pretty easy to make. 350º Oven 9" square pan Date Cake 1 Cup Chopped Dates 1 Cup of hot water 2 Tsp of Baking Soda 1/2 Tsp of salt 2 Cups of flour 1 Cup of sugar 2 Tsp vanilla 1 Cup of Salad Dressing Soak the chopped dates in the hot water until cool. Whisk the dry ingredients together. Add the Salad Dressing and dates (water included). Pour into a greased or sprayed 9" square pan and bake at 350º for 35 - 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. My grandma used to make this frosting for this cake, but I didn't frost mine last night. 1 1/2 cups of white sugar 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar 1/4 cup of cream 5 Tbsp of butter Bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 3 minutes while stirring constantly. Beat until cool and pour on cool cake. |

By salad dressing, do you mean Miracle Whip or mayo? |

My brother's birthday is tomorrow and this is his favorite cake. I have to make a double batch in a half sheet pan so they can serve it at their Venetian night at the Yacht Club tomorrow. Yesterday morning, I open my three ring binder to grab the recipe and it's not there. It's on a 3" x 5" card that I have had forever and now I can't find it anywhere in my house. I started to panic and then I remembered that I posted the recipe here. If it weren't for this board, I would be up a creek without a paddle. Thanks again Josh for starting this board. I printed off three copies. |
