I have some dates in the pantry, so I decided to make this cake that my Grandma used to make. If you like dates, this is pretty easy to make.

350º Oven
9" square pan

Date Cake

1 Cup Chopped Dates
1 Cup of hot water
2 Tsp of Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp of salt
2 Cups of flour
1 Cup of sugar
2 Tsp vanilla
1 Cup of Salad Dressing

Soak the chopped dates in the hot water until cool. Whisk the dry ingredients together. Add the Salad Dressing and dates (water included). Pour into a greased or sprayed 9" square pan and bake at 350º for 35 - 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

My grandma used to make this frosting for this cake, but I didn't frost mine last night.

1 1/2 cups of white sugar
1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
1/4 cup of cream
5 Tbsp of butter

Bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 3 minutes while stirring constantly. Beat until cool and pour on cool cake.

By salad dressing, do you mean Miracle Whip or mayo?

My brother's birthday is tomorrow and this is his favorite cake. I have to make a double batch in a half sheet pan so they can serve it at their Venetian night at the Yacht Club tomorrow. Yesterday morning, I open my three ring binder to grab the recipe and it's not there. It's on a 3" x 5" card that I have had forever and now I can't find it anywhere in my house. I started to panic and then I remembered that I posted the recipe here. If it weren't for this board, I would be up a creek without a paddle. Thanks again Josh for starting this board. I printed off three copies.
