The ATK ring bound cookbook has tons of general crock pot cooking info interspersed into the slow cooking section. And surprisingly, there are a TON of good looking pressure cooking recipes in there as well. A hidden gem for anybody with that hardware.

They suggest that you can brown meat ahead so you can put together your crock in the morning. Not so with chicken they advise, do that just before assembling. I wonder why it does not have the makeaheadability like beef dishes. ??

Trinket,

The main attraction to crock pots is if you and your sweetie both work, but you want to make something long-cooking on a weeknight.

For a Greek food example, Kris likes Fassolakia, and I love Gigantes (giant beans). Either of these dishes takes a minimum of 3 hours if cooked conventionally, but with a crock pot I can make one for a thursday night meal.

For that matter, there's a very limited range of soups you can cook in less than one hour total time which still taste good. But a day in the crock pot? Magnifique!

To be honest, I don't know if I've ever used a CP recipe. I think I've just thrown stuff together and turned it on. I'm going to give it another try with some actual recipes. Have to look thru my cookbooks and see what I can find.

I am seeing a lot of recipes that use prunes, where they claim that the prunes just disinegrate into flavor, no outward sign of them left. It sounds very good, this is high on my list.

Yesterday, I made Ci's Pork with Prunes out of the ATK/FC (again) and it was delicious. That was a real winner.

I should be embarrassed by this, but I'm not. :D Just toss a pork butt into the ole' CP and cover with a bottle of Stubb's BBQ sauce. Cook all day on low, siphon off grease, debone, shred. Voila', pulled pork sandwiches. Top with coleslaw and you're good to go.
