King Arthur has a new recipe for these buns: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/hawaiian-buns-recipe Normally I'm not a big fan of sweetish rolls but I've got to try these out. |

I saw these and plan to make them asap. I love King's Hawaiian rolls, both original and savory butter. I've been making Steve's breakfast bread every week since I got the 7qt. mixer. If would be great if I could make mine too! I'm having surgery on my thumb/hand to take out a cyst tomorrow, so it will be at least Wednesday before I can try them. Will post when I do. |

I did make these rolls yesterday and they turned out really nice; beautiful color, texture and flavor. I used the SAF Gold yeast as directed and the rise was great. I also cut back slightly on the brown sugar and the vanilla to get a slightly less sweet product. I spaced out and only shaped eight rolls instead of the sixteen in the recipe; they were quite large but not huge. All in all, a good recipe that I'll probably make again sometime. Alina, I can't wait to hear how you like the recipe. |

My surgery got postponed till Thursday so I have the buns doing the first rise now. Have to go see if I have metal 9" X 13" pan to bake them. I usually use Pyrex for that size, but hopefully I have one somewhere. Will post when done. |

I am torn about these. Flavor and texture are great. Not exactly the same as the originals, but good enough. However the dough was a PITA to use. It was a very sticky dough which made separating and rolling into 16 really hard. They did rise beautifully on first rise and expanded on 2nd. I had a problem over proofing second rises for loaves, so I only gave these 45 minutes. I used SAF gold, Honeyville Alta Artisan flour, full amounts of everything, juice from a can or crushed pineapple (one can yields a little over 1/2 cup so put back some). I used TJ's organic brown sugar and extra large eggs. I made 16 and they are big rolls. If I can get the dough less sticky I'd make 24 instead. I will try them again subbing white whole wheat flour for part, and using more flour in general. Will also use C&H golden brown sugar instead. The other bread I made today from an adaptation of another KAF recipe Jan Brett's Crunchy Whole Grain Bread turned out very well. This time I used hemp seeds for the sesame (for more protein) and a combo of golden raisins and TJ's oj cranberries. Added and changed other stuff as well, and I am very pleased. Makes great toast, 2 loaves at a time and a slice has over 5g. of protein. Good Day today after all. PS, thanks for the surgery well wishes. While he has me under to take out the lump, he's going to inject both hands. which is great since I have almost no cartilage on either wrist. So it's on for Thursday pm now. |

Sorry, didn't mean to be cryptic. At the risk of tmi, I have what apparently is an unusually large cyst at the base of my thumb on my left hand. It's there all the time, but gets bigger and irritated at times to the point of making it impossible to use my thumb to grasp and it hurts. Originally, they were going to just drain it, but after the MRI, I was sent to a hand specialist for excision. Both my wrists have had severe arthritis for a while, with my right hand being worse. So far, it appears it is just ortheo not rheumatoid, with one more test to go, which is very good news (my mom's cause of death was lung scarring supposedly caused by Methotrexate.) When the weather changes it hurts badly. Had a bad bout at the beginning of the year when both wrists were swollen and very painful, usually they take turns. I've been using ibuprofen to keep it in check. Cortisone injections were offered, but I know those can be painful (my mom had them) so I'd not done them. However, since I'll be under for the surgery, he'll take out the cyst, do a release? on my left hand and give me shots on both hands. It would be great to be pain free for a while.
