For me, nothing's better than a hot drink on a cold, snowy afternoon.
Here's my favorite recipe that is so old, it was made in a percolator! However, it can be done in a slow cooker, or, I suppose, in a saucepan:

Percolator Punch

¼ to ½ cup Brown Sugar
2-¼ cups Pineapple Juice
1-¾ cups Water
2 cups Cranberry Juice
1 Tbs Whole Cloves
1/2 Tbs Whole Allspice
3 Sticks Cinnamon, broken
1/4 tsp Salt

Pour liquid ingredients into percolator.

Add dry ingredients to basket

Perk for approximately ten minutes.

Add a shot of rum and/or rye whisky or brandy.

Keeps well in the fridge for a long time.

Don't let the name "punch" put you off. It is absolutely nothing like any punch I've ever had.

I also like the Tom & Jerry mix from the grocery stores this time of year.
Anyone have any hot drink recipes they love?

I have an electric Corningware percolator that I got as a wedding gift many years ago, I've kept it all this time just to make this recipe because I love it so much!

Tom & Jerry Batter: from Audrey Saunder on eGullet

Ingredients for the batter:

    2 servings

    1 egg (extra large)separated
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 teaspoon Jamaican rum
    1 drop Angostura bitters
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 dash ground cinnamon
    1 smidge ground cloves
    1 dash ground allspice

For the drink:

[list]whole milk, about 4-6 ounces per person
Jamaican Rum, one ounce per serving
Cognac, one ounce per serving[/;ist]

Batter Recipe:
To make the batter: separate the eggs.

Beat the yolks, then add vanilla, rum, bitters, sugar and spices.

In another bowl, beat the whites until stiff. Fold the whites into the yolk mix until it has the consistency of pancake batter. You can refrigerate this–and should, if you’re not using it right away–but use it the same day.

To serve:

Heat the milk, and boil some water. Stir your batter, then pour 2 ounces of batter into a toddy mug. Add 1 ounce rum and 1 ounce cognac. Fill the mug with equal parts hot milk and boiling water or all milk.

Top with extra batter

Dust with freshly ground nutmeg.

Ilene gave me this recipe and it is fantastic. I was just thinking I should whip up a batch for any holiday visitors. Well, really for me but it makes tons so the visitors can have some too. I think I may do a half recipe as there is only so much celebrating I should do.

Hot Buttered Rum Mix

1 lb. butter softened
1 lb. brown sugar
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 qt vanilla ice cream
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg

Blend together until smooth and keep in freezer. Add a dollop to a mug and add rum and hot water.

Kahlúa Dulce de Leche Colada

1.5 ounces Kahlúa
1 ounce vodka
3 ounces espresso
¼ cup half-and-half
2 tablespoons dulce de leche

1. Brew espresso in a latte cup.

2. Meanwhile, heat the half-and-half and dulce de leche together until steaming, stirring well to dissolve the dulce de leche.

3. Add half-and-half mixture to the latte cup along with Kahlua and vodka. Mix and serve

Tips
Vanilla vodka works particularly well in this drink.

It's how I use up leftover dulce de leche from holiday baking. It works well with brandy instead of vodka too.


I also make Emeril's recipe for hot buttered rum. I mix the butter, sugar, and spices together. Then I chill it partially and portion it into individual servings. I roll the mix into balls and refrigerate. When I want hot buttered rum, I just pull out a ball, pour boiling water over it and add rum. I nuke it for a few seconds if it isn't warm enough.

Glogg!

This stuff is amazing! We drank so much of it last year that I put up four bottles to age over to this year. We are just waiting for it to get cold enough.
