Alas, my brother had never heard of it. But he suggested roasting the turnips and proceeding as if with baba ghanouj.. Worth a turnip or two-they are quite cheap. You could try charring them on the stove to get a smoky flavor.

You're Google-fu is strong Grasshoppa, but today mine is stronger.

Found another entry for this. Same recipe, but it is prefaced by saying that it is the invention of some San Franciso restaurant. No wonder there's no recipes out there.

Oooohhh ... thank you JesBelle! I shall have to test these out and post a vetted recipe to the Board! Maybe I'll ship you some ... where do you live, anyway?

Heck, you even found a recipe from the restaurant! Although this story is kind of fishy:

Quote:
Salih named the spread Hudhud Ghanoush after his young son.

... simply because I did find mentions of the dish in some Armenian food articles.

(and an honorable mention to JeanF)

Michigan, but sadly, I cannot eat tahini. You're welcome, anyway. It was kind of fun discovering all the ways to spell "ghanouj."

JB,

Yeah, that was my problem searching for it. Also the fact that HudHud is apparently the name of a company or a legal term in Turkish, so lots of false positives.

Ah, the secret to anonymity on the internet...share a name with someone famous.

If these recipes fail you, you could always try Hiba/Tartine. She speaks Arabic.

I just did a google search out of curiosity and it came up with a few results including different spelling options in the search string. Amazing how your quest is changing Google as we type.

Fuzzy, does this dip actually taste like turnip? It sounds yummy.
