 I am making lamb stew today & the recipe calls for tomato sauce. I don't have any. I have tom paste, canned toms & tomato puree. What to use as a sub? I am not going to the store.
TIA also have some jarred pasta sauce.

I would use canned tomatoes with a couple tablespoons of paste to jazz it up. Or, you could probably just cook down the tomatoes some to thicken them up.

Do you have an onion, five carrots and garlic? If so, here you go:

- finely chop the onion and three garlic cloves.
- sweat the onion in 2 tbs of olive oil until translucent, about 10 min, then add 1 TBS kosher salt.
- add garlic and cook for two more min.
- add 2 TBS of tomato paste, mix, and then add the tomato puree.
- coarsely chop the tomatoes (do this in the can with kitchen shears) and add to the sauce.
- Peel and cut the carrots into 2" segments and add to the sauce.
- simmer for about 2 hours; remove the carrots before use (they're a great snack) or keep them in. Add additional salt to taste.
- a splash or red wine never hurts.

If you don't have carrots just add some sugar to taste to give the sauce just a tinge of sweetness.

Actually, this isn't a "sub" for tomato sauce...it is tomato sauce.
