I have a recipe for lamb meatballs that I got from Food & Wine that I love. It uses some creme fraiche, after cooking the meatballs, they get braised in a pomogranate (sp??) sauce. These are soooo yummy. :P

My question is, what size scoop could I use to get meatballs about one inch in diameter? Currently i just weigh, half, weigh, half, until I get 16 balls. Wayyyy too tedious. Seems like if I got a scoop a little larger than an inch I could save a lot of time.

TIA, Janet

Janet,

Not sure what the scoop is named but I have an INOX stainless all metal scooper that is exactly 1.5" across. I don't know how I ever lived without it. Such a great tool. I use it two ways: completely full and rounded ( 1.5" ball) and also level scoop, then simply lightly reshaped (probably about 1" ball). I use it for small pancakes, cookies, meatballs, fudgeballs, pesto portions, lots of stuff. Too bad I can't remember where I got it but it was probably someplace "normal" like Target rather than a specialty store. Go get one!

Those meatballs sound terrific! I have OXO dishers that are 1", 1-1/4" and 1-3/4". The 1" looks really tiny, but I'll bet the others would work. I'm wondering why I don't have a 1-1/2"? Anyway, I love the OXO's and they're readily available at most any store with a kitchenwares section. I think I got mine in the grocery store.

trink.

Thanks for the responses. I thought about this after I posted. I am quite sure that a scoop just over an inch will do the job. I am looking forward to making lamb meatballs soon, I will try a scoop than. The initial cooking is done on the grill & we have been having a cold spell here. The gas grill is not very efficient in the cold, so am waiting for some warmer weather. This weekend is supposed to be warmer. I'll post the results.
