Has anyone used the rice function on the Instant Pot to make pilaf or fried rice? I am thinking I could use the Saute function first, then the rice one when ready to cook the rice. Any thoughts? TIA

Theoretically, it should work. Depends on how hot the saute mode gets.

The sauté mode has 3 heat levels - the normal, which is hot enough to brown the meats; the low, which is good for cooking onions and the like, though can still be a bit hot for garlic, if left too long; and the high, which browns meat almost too fast, so it might be good for fried rice, though I haven't tried that. I made a sort of vegetarian style jambalaya once, using the low sauté for the veggies, and the rice mode to finish, and it came out great, though the pot had a scattered spotting of burned rice on it.

I just tried one cup of basmati brown rice this morning using 1.25 cups of water (with a pinch of salt) for 22 minutes and then manual release after 10. I wasn't sure whether to follow the settings for basmati or for brown, so I winged it. I am so pleased,it came out perfect.:D

I was just reading a recipe this morning from today's Oregonian newspaper in which the writer recommends Sukoyaka Genmai (a quick-cooking short-grain brown rice) which I'd never heard of. Anyone here familiar with this?
