Oh, I think that's nationwide.

However, in CA, all sugar at most markets is labelled "cane sugar". It's possible that beet sugar is available as generic sugar at the super-discount markets; I haven't looked.

It could be a "thing" in health food stores simply because it is vegan. Beet sugar, I mean. It doesn't need to be treated with bone char to whiten it.

Lantic, probably the most common sugar in Canada (or at least Ontario...) manufactures from both cane and beet, and does not tell you on the package which it was from. This is my interpretation of their site. The exception is you can tell if it is cane from one particular factory, as only that factory uses bone char, and it has a code on the package you can tell by:
