I have been buying dried whole corn from Azure Standard. I grind it to make cornmeal. I just got to reading around, and I realized that this is the right corn to make hominy with. Duh. This seems like a good read on doing it: http://www.preparedsociety.com/forum/f3 ... corn-8557/

I happen to have lots of of lye on hand for pretzels and soap. I thought you had to use lime, but it turns out lye works as well. I think it's just more dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

If I successfully make hominy, I can finally get my hands on fresh masa! I'm trying to figure out the best way to grind it though. Vitamix, food processor, or KA meat grinder?

Anyway, has anyone ever done this? Any tips? I'm wondering about massaging the hulls off bare handed. That seems unwise, if you use lye. :? I could use gloves, I guess.

This method looks great. I'll probably just get lime. Amazon has it for sure.
