Are they the same size as ours, or different?

http://sizes.com/food/kitchen_measure.htm seems to say they're different. Anyone know definitively?

Whenever I've seen Jamie Oliver discuss teaspoons and tablespoons he uses a real teaspoon or tablespoon from the flatware drawer.

Of course he also uses dessert spoons and water glasses as measurements.

They are different... how I don't know but I messed up a couple loaves of bread by using one American measuring cup and one British. The Swiss use flatware too for measuring and also water glasses for things that aren't weighed.

American, British and Metric Tablespoon Measures

Americans measure dry ingredients in level tablespoons while the British measure them in heaping tablespoons. Therefore:

2 American tablespoons = 1 British tablespoon

Liquid tablespoons must, obviously, be level for both Americans and British.

1 tablespoon liquid = 15 milliliters
1 teaspoon liquid = 5 milliliters
3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon

VA,

Ok, thanks. That's what I saw elsewhere, I just wanted to confirm it.

Heaping tablespoons indeed! No wonder the British can't cook. ;-)

BTW, I don't think I've seen you posting in a year or so. Welcome back!

Thanks.......I'm around a good bit but usually see a question I can answer only after someone else has , so tend to lurk and read more than anything else. Love this board, although I've found it dangerous to drink my coffee while reading........
