Friend and I had a GDO (Girl's Day Out) yesterday and went to see this. I read some rather unpleasant reviews, but mostly by men, and although I didn't read the book, we liked this movie. The "Eat" part in Italy was fabulous. The food was gorgeously photographed, and I love what Liz said about not feeling guilty about eating and enjoying your food, or refusing it and having regrets.

I'll give it a thumbs up 8-)

KSS,

I dunno, it looks a lot like the feminine equivalent of "Sideways". Which, I suppose, a lot of men liked -- but I didn't.

What's the "prayer in India" angle? Hinduism, Catholicism, or something else?

I'm going to try and see it this week. I had planned on seeing it yesterdaybut that didn't work out. I'll chime in once I've seen it.

Don't go to the movies much these days but already added it to my Netflix list. Thanks for the review KSS!

Yes, Hindu. The wedding is soooo beautiful. I had the honor of attending a Sikh wedding years ago. I always think everyone does a better wedding than the white euro wedding. I'm not trying to offend - I had one, too.

It was realy about her trying to find herself spiritually.

I was into it in the 60's. Should have stayed with it.

Hated Sideways. How did two selfish thieving jerks bcome a premise for a a movie?

I saw the Expendables yesterday and boy was that an action packed film.

Eat Pray and Love is probably going to be one I will see on DVD. Whenever I go see this type of movie, I always seem to pick a showing where I am the only guy in the theater.

Yes, Todd, but if we went to see The Expendibles, we would have been the only girls in the theater  !!!!

KSS,

Yeah, I'm Jewish by background and I remember when I first attended a Protestant wedding ... my uncle's ... and I was like "What? That was it? I think I missed it. Sorry, I blinked!"

Or as Dave Barry once put it: "A WASP couple can get married, buy a house and a station wagon, have 1.5 kids, and file for divorce, all in the amount of time it takes an ethnic wedding to get to the part where all the guests drink out of the bride's shoe."

I also went to my brother's Orthodox Jewish wedding in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem. That wedding lasted, literally, seven days.

You were into Hinduism? What kind? Oh, wait, it was the 60's ... I bet you didn't have any idea. ("If you can remember the 60's, you weren't there.")

I have been to a Jewish wedding, a Sikh wedding, and a black wedding in a poor black church, where they had 12 bridesmaids in rainbow dresses, and piano player in dark glasses, playing jazz riffs. All were beautiful, joyful, and much better than what we do. Dave Barry's quote was quite true.

And no, I don't know what kind of Hinduism I was into. But I'm sure it was groovy, man. I also dabbled in Buddhisim, but then who didn't? Reportedly, Julia Roberts was taken with Hindu, as well.

I had a Pagan wedding, disguised as a wasp-secular one. Wore a Hindu dress, though. Everyone who was there just remembers the beer.
