http://www.cbs.com/shows/american-baking-competition/ (but I can't seem to get the videos to run past the ad)

Caught the first episode of this show last night (I think it airs on Wednesdays normally). Looks like a typical cooking competition except dumbed-down for the home cook/baker (I noticed that the competitors were allowed to work from notes when preparing their recipes).

This week's episode was pies and tarts. The big drama was whether the bakers would blind-bake their pie crust or risk a soggy bottom. in another round, bakers make a meat pie using provided directions that are vague and/or contain errors. Jeff Foxworthy is the host but so far he's mostly harmless.

Surely someone among us is talented and photogenic as this bunch is? Amy? Darcie? Becca?

Frank,

Excuse me? All three mentioned contain both qualities, unless of course you were referring to yourself. ;)

However, given the criteria the person be amateur, I would not qualify. I'm not sure if Darcie would qualify either, but Darc, you should check. I know Becca would, and I think she would be fantastic, as would Darcie if she qualifies.

Go for it!

Amy

After watching the first show, I'm not sure I will watch any more, unless ,of course, one of you get on the program.

Yup, you sure are photogenic, Frank.

PS: Grubstreet says (maybe) you should be watching:
http://www.grubstreet.com/2013/05/ameri ... n-cbs.html

Their reasons:
1. It's just like the BBC show
2. Top Chef has two rounds per show, this show has three! That's 50% better!
3. Baking is more exacting an art than cooking
4. Judge Paul Hollywood (apparently his real name) recently left his wife, apparently for judge Marcela Valladolid. Scandal!
5. Ultimately (according to the article) the formula works better than most cooking competitions.

I watched a small amount of the show, and had the same idea as Pete - it was "dumbed-down". I was really waiting for them to bring out some store-bought mixes of some sort, figuring it was being sponsored by Kraft or Pillsbury.

I'm sure any of you would win hands down, though you may get bored.
