Can't decide on a dinner party or a cocktail party but I'd better get to steppin! If it's a dinner party, I'd like to do a menu of the day = crown pork roast with delmonico or hasselback potatoes. Have some old cookbooks I need to check for menu ideas. Cocktail party would call for martinis as I understand they were new and all the rage and assorted canapes. Personally I don't care for martinis. Maybe sherry? I know the Brits are keen on that. I have to make all these decisions tomorrow = any ideas will be appreciated! fitzie |

Fitzie If you do a cocktail party, think about serving Pimm's Cup (and ginger ale) very British cocktail and I think yummy. Add some great English cheeses....Stilton, Cheddar, etc with sliced pears...also very British. I like your idea of canapes, too |

I was in Barnes & Noble today and saw an "unofficial" Downton Abbey cookbook. I didn't look at it, but the mere idea of it was funny. Amy P.S. I just checked amazon, and they have it complete with a "look inside" feature. You could look at the table of contents to get ideas... I think a raspberry charlotte would be in order for dessert. |

Just finished the Christmas special from season 3. Hurry up so I can discuss it with you! Without spoiling anything I can say there was vichyssoise, treacle tart and venison. Lots of rum punches too. Mary |

The party has changed a bit. Five of us in the neighborhood will meet across the street from my house because they have a humongous TV. Everybody will bring a little something. I'm doing dessert. I love Amy's idea of Raspberry Charlotte but the raspberries haven't been very good lately and oh so pricey. Maybe I'll do an Italian Cream Cake. fitzie |

Our local paper has an article on the Downton Abbey unofficial cookbook. LINKY The discussion includes dishes served upstairs (Lobster Mornay) and downstairs (stewed leftovers). It would be fun to have a party with dress optional. Anyone in dress wear would get the 13 course meal and casual dressers would get beef stew. Tim |
